My beautiful daughter, Sierra Eggers, posted this on her Facebook page this morning. I thought it was something that others, myself included, really needed to hear and/or be reminded of, so I asked her permission to share it with all of you.
“Iām typically not one to go posting stuff on social media that often, but I think this needs to be heard!
Iāve always been one to wrestle with my imperfections and insecurities and think that Iām never going to be pretty or whatever just because I donāt have the slimmest body or the straightest teeth or whatever else other people may have that I donāt.
But I just got so sick of constantly putting myself down, so I wrote this down in my journal as a reminder and I really wanted to share it:
I wish that people would stop blocking out their imperfections so the world can see more of what it is like to be realistic rather than perfect! Because realistic is just as beautiful! You donāt have to be perfect to be drop dead gorgeous!!! You are already there! Stop letting your insecurities define who you are!!
I think sometimes we get so caught up in the unrealistic expectations of society that we become anxious and upset over the littlest of imperfections that we may have!
Now everyone always says that you are your own worst critic and you always see yourself differently, and most likely worse, than what others see you as. And I completely understand how hard it is to believe that you see yourself worse than others because you know itās the same person duh…
But honey!!! Iām here to tell you STOP!!! You. Are. Beautiful. (Or handsome) JUST THE WAY YOU ARE!! You do NOT have to change who you are for society! You do NOT have to change what you look like in order to be accepted! Stop looking in the mirror and pointing out your flaws!!!
YOU ARE LOVED AND SHOULD SHOW YOURSELF SOME OF THAT LOVE TOO!
And some day someone will love the crap out of you even with all of those imperfections that you think are unlovable! Heck they may love you because of your imperfections. I know crazy right!! Stop settling for less than what you deserve!!! (Reece Huber, thank you for loving me for who I am and always telling me Iām wrong when I put myself down!Ā ā¤ļø)
So post that picture! Drop that selfie! Wear that bomb outfit that youāll look amazing in! And stop letting everyone elseās twisted version of you and how you should look get into your head!
And society: havenāt you ever heard of the momās saying if you have nothing nice to say then donāt say it at all!! Please STOP shaming people because they arenāt up to your ridiculous expectation of perfection. We were not made to be perfect. We were made to be real!!!
If you made it to the end: Thank you for coming to my ted talk. Rant over. Love yāall!Ā ā¤ļø”
